A) This book is about the interpretation of Bachs music. The author didnt like playing the music incorrect concerning style. The main focus is the articulation and it has different sections for different performers and their performance aspects. There are chapters for strings, woodwinds, and keyboards.
This book discusses the authenticity of Bachs work and how many were not completely original. The author praises this fact though saying that Bach took the best out of works to make one great work. The book is separated into two parts. One is the works that were his own and the works in which he borrowed material from other composers.
This book is a collection of 16 essays that increases our awareness of both Bach and his works. The book is contained within four part. There is an introduction of Bachs life and historical significance, a description of the composition process, followed by questions of the authenticity of the works and the chronology, and aspects of performance practice.
This book is only about Bachs cantatas. It breaks them up into movements and analyses the text, music, origin, and purpose. It is helpful in the study of specific cantatas like Cantata 140.

D) Furman has a complete collection of Bach works up to what was known in 1947. We dont however have an updated version. More works were found in the Yale library in the 1980s.
E) BWV in an initialism for Bach Werke-Verzeichnis. It is a catalog of all of Bachs surviving works and was published in 1950 by Wolfgang Schmieder. The number system of this catalog is not done chronologically like Kochels was for Mozart but instead they are divided into the type of large works that each is. For example: about the first 200 BWV numbers are cantatas which are then followed by vocal works, chorales, organ music, clavier music instrumental and ensemble music and the Musical Offspring and the Art of the Fugue.
F) The BWV designation for Cantata 140 is 140.
G) MGG which is an initialism for Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart is a musical encyclopedia. It was compiled by Barenreiter and contains music history right up to the turn of the 20th century. This is considered to be the most comprehensive music encyclopedia in the world and would be used as a research tool for music history.
RILM is an acronym for Repertoire International de Litterature Musicale. It is an index of citations of literary works discussing international music. This would be used when looking for books, articles, or dissertations about music or composers.
RISM is an acronym for Repertoire International Des Sources Musicales (International Inventory of Musical Sources). It is the culmination of a worldwide effort to identify and describe sources of music and writings about music from the earliest times through about 1825. It has a similar function to that of MGG but is isolated to just before 1825.
